YOG on the Road to London 2012 chats to Dana Touran
She won silver in taekwondo at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore 2010 and quickly followed this achievement with another silver medal at the Asian Games in Guangzhou. Now, still aged just 19, Jordan’s Dana Touran is looking to add to her growing haul with a podium spot at the London 2012 Olympic Games after being selected for her national team.
Looking back to that summer in 2010, Dana told us: “I just remember everything about the Youth Olympic Games. It was a great experience and a wonderful feeling and I really learnt a lot. I learnt that you can be whatever you want if you work hard for your goal.”
And work hard Dana did to secure her ticket to London 2012. So what is it about taekwondo that she loves so much? “I love this sport because it depends on speed and flexibility, and it is full of challenges.”
When Dana, an Olymipic Solidarity scholarship holder, is not challenging herself on the mats, she likes to challenge herself on the ivories as an accomplished pianist. But for now, all her focus is on bringing home a medal.
“I’m working hard to show my best performance and to be on that podium in London,” Dana said.
Good luck to Dana and to all the YOG athletes who work hard to be the best they can be every day!
