YOG athletes are unstoppable at the moment, with not one, not two, but four gymnasts who competed at the Singapore Youth Olympic Games in 2010 now qualifying for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Competing at the final qualifying event in London earlier this year, artistic gymnasts Ana Sofia Gomez Porras (GUA), Moldir Azimbay (KAZ) and Joanna Adlerteg (SWE) and rhythmic gymnast Jana Berezko-Marggrander (GER) all secured their places at the Games with impressive performances.
World champion gymnast Jani Tanskanen, who served as an Athlete Role Model offering his support and advice in Singapore, has high hopes for the YOG alumni.
“Ultimately competing in London this summer, I expect to see a lot more gymnasts with Singapore YOG experience,” he said.
Ones to watch out for on Jani’s list include artistic gymnasts Viktoria Komova (RUS) and Sam Oldham (GBR), both of whom we have recently profiled on this very Cube.
Well done to all the young YOG hopefuls with their eyes on London 2012 and to all the YOG athletes who competed in Singapore and continue to live by the Olympic values.
