Women and Sport, Yesterday and Today exhibition

As part of the events organised by the International Labour Office (ILO) in Geneva and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to mark International Women’s Day 2006, the Olympic Museum is presenting an exhibition of photographs entitled Women and Sport, Yesterday and Today. It is on show until 17 in the ILO Colonnades.
Strength, grace and determination
The Women and Sport, Yesterday and Today exhibition explores the world of women in sport through two themes: Strength, Grace and Determination, Images of the Female Athlete, highlighting the diverse aspects that make up the female athlete, and The Evolution in Sports Attire, which shows how far we have come.

Demythologising…
The current situation of female athletes often reflects the cultural and political position of women in the world. Even though considerable progress has been achieved in many fields, women still face numerous problems. Demythologising women’s participation in sports competitions opens the way to improvements and success by changing perceptions about female athletes.

Third International Film Festival
Parallel to the exhibition, from 6 to 10 March the ILO cinema is hosting the 3rd International Film Festival on women in sport. It is celebrating International Women’s Day by focusing on the situation of women in the sports world. The fictional films selected tell the story of female athletes around the world.
