With Less Than 700 Days To Go, Turin 2006 Hits The Road
With less than 700 days to go until the XX Olympic Winter Games in Turin, TOROC, the Organising Committee for the XX Olympic Winter Games, launched its Openvillage tour that looks to promote the 2006 Turin Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games throughout the whole of Italy.
Emotions and spirit of the Games
Openvillage was created with the goal of communicating the values, emotions and spirit of the Games throughout Italy, as well as promoting the awareness of winter sports among the Italian public and publicising the Piedmont region’s role as the host of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
14 stops in two years
Over the next two years, 14 stops are planned around Italy, with eight stops planned in 2004. The tour will kick off in Catania’s Piazza Duomo on 16 April and will then travel to Bari and Riccione during the Finals of the Summer Student Games. The Openvillage tour will then continue to Rome, Milan, Cagliari, Naples and a city to be chosen from Cervinia, Trento and Bolzano.
Experience the Games
The three structures that will form the Openvillage (Panoramic Theatre, Pavilion and Stage) will stage a grand multimedia show that will allow everyone the chance to get hands-on experience of the thrills of the Olympic Games. The Panoramic Theatre will give visitors the opportunity to enjoy 3D films, which, thanks to special snow and wind effects will increase the visitors' knowledge of winter Olympic sports. While in the Pavilion, visitors will be able to test themselves physically and mentally and, perhaps, win Turin 2006 prizes and gadgets.
Bringing winter sports to the whole of Italy
“This is the first time that an Organising Committee has promoted the Games through such a territorially-based initiative,” said the Deputy President of TOROC, Evelina Christillin, “and we are happy to bring a little of the thrill of the Games to those regions that are traditionally remote from winter sports.”
