Winners of the Olympic Golden Rings 2006

Yesterday, Tuesday 12 December, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) picked the winners of the “Olympic Golden Rings 2006” for the best televised coverage of the XX Olympic Winter Games in Turin. This year, 27 films from various countries were submitted to an international jury chaired by IOC Honorary President Juan Antonio Samaranch, which met at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne on 11 and 12 December.
The prize ceremony was held at the Museum, in the presence of IOC President Jacques Rogge, members of the IOC Radio and Television Commission, and various representatives of Rights Holding Broadcasters, Olympic Games Organising Committees, International Federations, the city of Lausanne and the canton of Vaud.
Four categories with 12 awards
The names of the winners were announced during the gala dinner in the Museum’s permanent exhibition areas. Gold, silver and bronze trophies were awarded in four categories. For the Best Sports Coverage by the Host Broadcasting Organisation, the gold went to SRG Switzerland for Alpine skiing - Men’s downhill; the silver to YLE Finnish Broadcasting Co. for Cross Country; and the bronze to Seven Network Australia for Freestyle Moguls - Aerials.
NBC Olympics and Seven Network Australia collect major awards
The winner of the Best Olympic Feature and the Best Athletes’ Profile was NBC Olympics with Seven Network Australia winning the Best Olympic Programme category. Eurosport International, NOS Television, YLE Finnish Broadcasting Co., NBC Olympics, Seven Network Australia and Canadian Broadcasting Corp collected silver and bronze awards.
30 years of the Olympic Golden Rings
The Olympic Golden Rings are an international competition created in Lausanne in 1976 and held every two years after the Olympic Summer and Winter Games. The Golden Rings seek to award excellence in television broadcasting of the Olympic Games.
