Welcome to London 2012: Where the YOG journey continues…
The torch has been carried, the athletes have all been welcomed into the Olympic Village and Wenlock has become a global superstar. That’s right - the moment we have all been waiting for has finally arrived. Welcome to London 2012!
The eagerly anticipated Opening Ceremony last night, directed by Danny Boyle, captured the spirit of the nation with the Queen of England turned Bond girl, 600 dancing nurses from the National Health Service and 40 live sheep. Athletes from every sporting nation poured into the stadium as London choked with pride. They were followed by some of Great Britain’s greatest Olympians joining young athletes to light the stadium’s “flower of fire” to mark the official start of the 30th Olympiad.
London has been transformed into a sporting arena and we’ll see athletes from 204 countries striving to be the best in their sports. The Games bring a host of questions with them. Will Youth Olympic Games Ambassador Usain Bolt beat his world record? Will fellow Ambassador Michael Phelps add to his great medal collection? But, most importantly, with so many of the Youth Olympic Games athletes making it to London, how many medals will they take home from their first Olympic Games?
We’re sure our Singapore graduates will give the athletes and even each other a run, swim or jump for their money, so be sure to watch out! Will Youth Olympic Games gymnast Sam Oldham backflip his way to Olympic success? Can Chad le Clos swim his way to a medal for South Africa? How will Lara Vadlau do sailing along Britain’s West Coast? There’s only one way to find out, so let the Games begin!
Good luck to all the Youth Olympic Games athletes and Ambassadors competing and keep checking the website for the latest stories and Olympic gossip!
