We Are Ready!
Vancouver 2010 CEO John Furlong began his last presentation to the 122nd International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session before the start of the Vancouver Games by telling the assembled IOC Members that “We are ready!” This was supported by the report of the IOC’s Coordination Commission Chairman for the Vancouver Games, René Fasel, who underlined the IOC’s confidence in Vancouver’s preparations for the Games. With only one day to go, the city of Vancouver and the watching world can look forward to seeing spectacular athletic competition, as the world’s best athletes take to the Olympic sports venues of British Columbia.
“Let’s Drop The Puck!”
“Let’s drop the puck!” These were the final words of René Fasel, as he brought to a close his update to the Session. The reports of both VANOC and Fasel underlined that Vancouver 2010 is ready to leave the starting gate and take to the slopes. The feedback from athletes, broadcasters and the press has so far been largely positive and as Furlong noted, the people of Vancouver are excited that the Games are here. After seven long years of preparations, Vancouver is ready and willing to shine with glowing hearts.Other Games
The Session also heard from the organisers and Coordination Commission Chairs of the London 2012, Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Games. Their updates covered the period since the last IOC Session in Copenhagen and the year ahead. London spoke of the five key areas that it will look at over the coming year, while Sochi 2014 described its impressive level of participation in the IOC’s Vancouver 2010 Observer programme. Rio presented to the Session for the first time since its election last October and described its quick start in setting up the structures that will take it to 2016.
