Warm weather training in Ireland?
The climates of Ireland and Singapore could hardly be more different, which is why Irish tennis star John Morrissey opted for a unique training regime before embarking on his quest for Youth Olympic Games glory.
In a bid to prepare for the humid conditions in Singapore, Morrissey resorted to wearing several layers of clothing during his training sessions in Dublin.
“At home in Ireland, it's obviously not the same as here, so I've been training indoors wearing three jumpers, two t-shirts, trousers and shorts,” said the 17-year-old after he booked a place in the quarter-finals of the boys' singles tournament with victory over fourth seed Duilio Beretta of Peru. “You get pretty sweaty, but I guess it has worked so far.”
Despite his inventive preparation programme, Morrissey was knocked out 6-4 6-4 in the last eight by rising Indian star Yuki Bhambri.
