Visit to the IOC Headquarters by the Prime Minister of Ukraine

The IOC President received yesterday afternoon in Lausanne the visit from Mr Viktor Yanukovych, Prime Minister of Ukraine and newly elected President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC). Among the personalities accompanying Mr Yanukovych were Mr Mykola Kostenko, Head of the State Committee on sports of Ukraine and vice-president of the NOC of Ukraine, Mr Oleksandr Omelchenko, Mayor of Kiev, Mr Yevhen Bersheda, Ambassador of Ukraine in Switzerland, and Mr Serguey Bubka, Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada (Paliament) of Ukraine, IOC Executive Board Member and President of the IOC Athletes' Commission.

During the meeting, views were exchanged on the future of sport in Ukraine. The IOC President particularly welcomed the decision of Mr Yanukovych to take on the lead of the NOC and therefore to recognise the important role of sport within society.
