Vancouver 2010: the excitement continues!
The 2010 Winter Games Information Centre in Whistler has welcomed its 20,010th visitor since Vancouver was awarded the XXI Olympic Winter Games on 2 July 2003. Whistler will host the ski events (Alpine and Nordic) as well as the sliding events and the Paralympic Games.
72,000 visitors since January 2002
The Centre opened almost two years ago, in January 2002. Since then, more than 72,000 visitors from around the world have stopped by to learn about plans for the 2010 Winter Games.
Tremendous public interest
"This is great news and shows that there's tremendous public interest in the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games," said Ted Nebbeling, Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia for West Vancouver-Garibaldi. "The excitement of Canada's 2010 victory on 2 July continues, even though there are more than 2,200 days until the Opening Ceremony."
"Whistler is looking forward to staging the Alpine, sliding, Nordic and all the Paralympic events in 2010," said Mayor Hugh O'Reilly. "We're working closely with all the Organising Committee partners in this early stage of the Winter Games planning process."
Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in February 2010
