VANCOUVER 2010: President Rogge in Montreal

IOC President Jacques Rogge begins a three-day visit to Canada on Monday, with a number of meetings in Montreal. It is his first visit to Canada since reading the words "The winner is... Vancouver," at the IOC's 115th Session in Prague in 2003.

Minister of Sport

President Rogge's first meeting is with Canada's Minister for Sport, Stephen Owen. During his brief stay in Montreal, the President will emphasise the importance of national support for Vancouver 2010. Such national support is already being demonstrated with the announcement of Bell Canada—based in Montreal—as Vancouver 2010's first national sponsor.

Home Team Success

A visit to the Canadian Olympic Committee's (COC) office provided an opportunity to learn more about the recently-launched Own the Podium programme. Own the Podium is a partnership between Vancouver 2010, the COC and other Canadian sporting bodies, designed to bring host-country success in six years' time.

Francophone Support

Delivering the day's keynote speech in French and meeting with the editorial board of La Presse and associated francophone newspapers, the President will once again emphasise the importance of the French language within the Olympic Movement.
