Vancouver 2010 Elects Chairman of the Board
On 28 October, the Vancouver 2010 Organising Committee held its first board meeting, and unanimously elected Jack Poole as Chairman of the Board. Jack Poole led the Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, and is also a prominent Vancouver businessman. With the election of Jack Poole, the 20-member Board is now complete.
Search for a CEO
In order to complete the Organising Committee's structure, the search will begin immediately for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to oversee day-to-day operations. A Task Force has been set up to head the search, and the CEO is expected to be in place in early 2004. The full composition of the Board of Directors and the members’ biographies are available on www.winter2010.com.
From 13 to 15 November in Vancouver, the IOC will hold an Orientation Seminar covering the basics in Games preparations. The three-day seminar is being held in order to support the Organising Committee in the initial 12 months of planning and operations for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
From 12 to 28 February 2010
The Board meeting was a key step in Vancouver's transition from bidder to host. The Organising Committee has now become an incorporated company, with a mandate to "support and promote the development of sport in Canada by planning, organising, financing and staging the XXI Olympic Winter Games (12 to 28 February 2010) and X Paralympic Games (12 to 21 March 2010)".
