Two major decisions made by the 116th IOC session

Two major decisions were made during today’s morning session by the 116th Session of the IOC. The session is held in Athens from 10 to 12 August 2004.

Mohamad Hasan, excluded from the IOC
The IOC Session followed the recommendation of the IOC Executive Board and decided to exclude Mohamad Hasan from the IOC, by 101 votes to 3. This brings the new total of IOC members to 123. Hasan had been an IOC member since 1994 and was initially suspended in 2001.

Guatemala City for the 2007 IOC Session
With a total of 57 votes the Session elected Guatemala City to host the 119th IOC Session in 2007. The other two candidate cities were Durban in South Africa and Copenhagen in Denmark.

The highlight of the 119th session will be the election of the host city for the XXII Olympic Winter Games. The session in 2005 will be held in Singapore and will elect the Host City for the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012. The 2006 session is to be held in Turin, a few days before the opening of the XX Olympic Winter Games.
