TURIN 2006: Women’s Ice Hockey Draw Finalised
Following the women’s final qualification tournaments that took place last weekend in Russia, Germany and China, the final three qualifiers for the women’s Olympic hockey tournament are now known. Russia, Germany and Switzerland were the final names to be added to the hat for the final Olympic tournament draw.
Final Groups For The Games
The final three teams were added to the five teams already qualified for the Games - Canada, Sweden, the USA, Finland and Italy - in order to make the draw for the preliminary round of matches in Turin. The final draw sees Canada, Sweden, Russia and Italy face-off in Group A, while Group B comprises the USA, Finland, Germany and Switzerland.
Preliminary And Play Off Rounds
The women’s ice hockey tournament will be played over two rounds. Initially, the teams will compete in a round robin format with each team taking on their group opponents once. The top two teams in each group will then proceed directly to the semi-final stage, while the bottom two teams in each group will play for positions five to eight. Each team will be guaranteed another two matches, which will be used to determine their final position.
