TURIN 2006: 100 Days To Go
With only 100 days to go until the Opening Ceremony of the XX Olympic Winter Games – Turin 2006, the excitement is building as preparations continue apace to ensure that, when the world arrives in Turin, the city and the Piedmont region are looking their best. The teams and the athletes are also making their final preparations before travelling to Turin to try to fulfil their Olympic dreams and maybe even win a medal. The International Federations are gearing up ahead of the Games, and the world’s media, who are expected to descend upon Turin and its surrounding mountains in their thousands, are preparing themselves to report on the Games. With 100 days to go, the Games are almost here!
A foretaste of the Games can already be had in Turin from 4 to 12 November, when the city will be hosting ice sports events. There will be both men’s and women’s ice hockey taking place in the Torino Esposizioni and at the Palasport Olimpico, with top level teams from Canada, the USA, Finland, Sweden, Italy and France competing in the women’s tournament, while France, Austria, Italy and Slovenia battle it out in the men’s competition. There will also be a sledge hockey tournament with a view to the Paralympic Games.
The Olympic Winter Games will be held in Turin from 10 to 26 February 2006. The Winter Games comprise seven different sports and 15 different disciplines, which will be played out in eight different competition sites. Around 2,500 athletes, 650 judges and umpires and one million spectators are expected to participate in this 20th edition of the Winter Games.
