TORINO 2006: Praise for Opening Ceremony

“Fantastic and inspiring” - these were the words of IOC President Jacques Rogge commenting on the Opening Ceremony of the XX Olympic Winter Games. ”All the feedback we have received has been excellent and we congratulate the Organising Committee and all the people involved in the preparation of the show.”
Strong message on peace, respect and tolerance
The President was also underlining the very strong message delivered on peace, respect and tolerance, thus reinforcing his own message to the athletes: “Athletes, you are role models; your achievements both on and off the field of play will inspire and motivate the future generations. Our world today is in need of peace, tolerance and brotherhood. The values of the Olympic Games can deliver these to us. May the Games be held in peace, in the true spirit of the Olympic Truce.“
Strong moment of universality
Jean-Claude Killy in his capacity as the Chairman of the Coordination Commission of the Turin Games joined in with the congratulations: “The show was exceptional, a strong moment of emotion and universality.”
Passion of Italian people
Valentino Castellani, President of the Organising Committee (TOROC) declared after the Ceremony: “The Opening Ceremony this evening is just a preview of what we will be offering the world over the next two weeks of competition. We have witnessed an extraordinary show that conveys with majesty and without rhetoric, the passion of the Italian people alternating between profoundly touching moments, aesthetic delights and sheer fun.“
