Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games


From 10 to19 March, two weeks after the end of the Olympic Winter Games, 535 athletes from an expected 39 countries will gather to participate in the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games.  Fifty-eight medal events will be contested in four sports, Alpine skiing, Ice Sledge Hockey, Nordic Skiing and Wheelchair Curling.
   
250,000 Spectators
Over 1000 members of the media are expected to cover the Paralympic Games and more than 6,000 volunteers will help with all operational aspects. The event is expected to attract 250,000 spectators. Organisers intend to conduct 280 anti-doping tests.
   
Live Internet coverage
For the first time, all events of the Paralympic Games will be broadcast live on the internet via its own webcast channel called ParalympicSport.TV. Available at www.paralympicsport.tv, the site offers 24/7 coverage free of charge which can be viewed live or delayed using a coverage on demand feature. Over 100 hours of live coverage from all four sports will be broadcast as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. In addition to the live coverage, a daily highlights package will also be broadcast.
