The virtual congress

The biggest new feature of the 2009 Congress will be the launch of a virtual congress on 1 October 2007. The call for contributions has been made during the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala City. Thanks to new technology, it is possible, through a virtual congress, to do the groundwork on the event and collect a large number of contributions.

The first stage of the virtual congress will be to provide the Olympic Family with an extranet, which they will use to submit their contributions and consult all the others. A maximum of two contributions per congress participant will be taken into consideration, provided that they are not both on the same theme. Throughout the virtual phase, the contributions will be read and analysed by the Congress Editorial Committee, which will identify the main thrust of the contributions with a view to drafting recommendations for the future.

Parallel to this, starting on 1 January 2008, members of the general public will be able to submit their own contributions via the IOC’s website. The Congress Editorial Committee will choose those relevant enough for inclusion in the Congress proceedings. Furthermore, the main orientations of the contributions from the public will be identified by the Congress Editorial Committee.
