The IOC President Visits Tehran
LAUSANNE, Switzerland (21 June 2002)- The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Dr Jacques Rogge, was in Tehran, Iran, yesterday, where he met the country's political and sports authorities.
The President was received at the Presidential Palace by Mr Mohammad Khatami, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, accompanied by Mr Mohsen Mehralizadeh, Vice President responsible for sport, and Mr Hashemi Taba, IOC member.
He also met representatives from several national federations and visited sports facilities in the city before opening the Iranian Olympic Academy.
"I am impressed by the quality of the sports infrastructure available to Iranian athletes and young people", Dr Rogge declared. "I thank the President of the Republic for his welcome and his valuable contribution to the development of sport in Iran", he added.
The visit concluded with the IOC President attending the General Assembly of the Iranian National Olympic Committee.
