The IOC President on a Jamaican tour


This weekend, IOC President Jacques Rogge concluded his trip to the Caribbean with a visit to Kingston, Jamaica.
 
During his visit to the island, President Rogge met with heads of local sports organisations at an extraordinary general meeting of the Jamaica Olympic Association, whose President is Michael Fennell. He also paid courtesy calls on Governor General Kenneth Hall, the Prime Minister, Portia Simpson-Miller, and Leader of the Opposition, Bruce Golding.
 
Meeting with a legendPresident Rogge met with legendary athlete Herb McKenley, gold medallist in the 4x400m relay in 1952 and triple silver medallist (400m in 1948, 400m and 100m in 1952). He described him as “a great Olympian who has helped shape the Olympic Games,” and added that it was “a great honour to greet him and to hand over a gift on behalf of the Olympic Movement”.
