THE IOC PRESIDENT MEETS THE CANADIAN SECRETARY FOR SPORT
The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Dr Jacques Rogge, today received the Canadian Secretary of State for Amateur Sport, Mr Denis Coderre, at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne.
President Rogge and Minister Coderre said that they were reassured by the security measures put in place by the United States administration for the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City in February 2002. In this connection, Minister Coderre expressed the full support of the Canadian government for the holding of the XIX Winter Games.
Vancouver’s bid to host the Olympic Winter Games in 2010 was also mentioned during the meeting.
President Rogge restated the IOC’s wish to see the work of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) develop further over the coming years at the new WADA headquarters in Montreal. For his part, Minister Coderre promised that the governments would respect their commitment to fund WADA.
