Teams try on outfits in preparation for tonight’s Opening Ceremony

Athletes were tweeting furiously throughout Friday about their formalwear ahead of the Opening Ceremony.

The ‘Isles of Wonder’ show devised by famed British director Danny Boyle has seen the stadium transformed into a British countryside scene, featuring real farmyard animals.

South African swimmer and Olympic gold medalist Roland Shoeman tweeted: “London2012 is finally here. Opening ceremony tonight. Who's as excited as I am??”

Fellow Olympic gold medalist Kerron Clement appears to be, having tweeted: “Can’t wait to try on my opening ceremony suit.” The US 400m sprinter and hurdler promised he would look “fly”.

US track cyclist revealed the team’s Ralph Lauren clothing, posting a photo of teammate Jimmy Watkins being fitted for his Opening and Closing Ceremony outfits.

US Virgin Island sprinter Tabarie Henry was also keen to show off his Caribbean outfit, tweeting a picture of himself in his “swag”.

However, Great Britain slalom canoeist Richard Hounslow proved a little more secretive and refused to reveal his look.

He tweeted: “Just tried on my @TeamGB opening ceremony still fits! No pic I’m afraid, it's a surprise!

Kayaker Ken Wallace, meanwhile, celebrated his birthday yesterday by going to the official Australian Team reception. “Thanks @AUSOlympicTeam…..for turning up to my birthday party tonight ;-) (reception) Best birthday yet!” he tweeted.
