Table Tennis Greek Open 2004
From 29 January to 1 February 2004, thirty-eight countries and 239 players are due to take part in the Greek Open Men's and Women's Table Tennis Tournament at the Galatsi Olympic Indoor Hall - including some of the world’s top exponents of the sport. The stars will come out when the main matches start on Friday 30 January 2004. The event takes place in the Galatsi Olympic Indoor Hall, the venue of the Olympic tournament for the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad in August 2004.
"Virtually everything ready"
"This is the biggest tournament in the history of Greek Table Tennis", said men's coach Nikos Kostopoulos. "The level is incredibly high and we shall have our work cut out". He commented on the speed with which the work on the venue had been finished in the last few days. "We found virtually everything ready," he said, "and this makes me very hopeful that we shall be absolutely ready for the Games in good time".
Four disciplines at the Games
At the Olympic Games, table tennis comprises four disciplines: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles and women's doubles. Table tennis at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games will be staged from 14 to 23 August. The Olympic finals will be held from 20 to 23 August.
