Stars in Twitter frenzy over 100m
Twitter exploded with 100m-related interest from top Olympians well before Usain Bolt limbered up for the start of his final.
US basketball superstars Kobe Bryant and James Harden were pictured posing in the starting blocks on a warm-up track. “Easy win for me!” Harden joked.
Anticipating the most rapid of showdowns, Olympians past and present delivered their predictions with hundredth-of-a-second accuracy.
“Ok, I'm going to push my luck and make a prediction for the 100m time. I reckon it'll be won in 9.70” mused five-time cycling Olympic Champion Sir Chris Hoy, who had correctly predicted teammate Ed Clancy’s time in the 1km time trial earlier in the day.
Shortly after his race, silver medal winner Yohan Blake joined the online conversation with the spirit of a true Olympian, tweeting: “Big up @UsainBolt! You deserved that one. Big up Jamaica!”
Jamaican team-mate Asafa Powell, who pulled up injured, sent both Bolt and Blake a congratulatory tweet: “Congratulations to @usainbolt and @yohanblake for winning Gold & Silver. Two of the finest competitors, happy to call you both champions!
