SPORTEL, the international meeting of sport and television

From 16 to 19 September, Monaco is hosting the 14th edition of Sportel, which gathers together broadcasters, producers, event organisers, sports federations, sponsors as well as the international press and new media representatives from across the world.

Initiated in 1990 and patronised by the IOC since 1997, this year Sportel is addressing the theme "Sport and Television: still a good marriage?" in the form of two questions: "Is Sport 'with it' enough for today's Television?" and "Sport and Television: exclusivity and competition" on which specialists from the sports and media worlds will speak. The main speakers include Juan Antonio Samaranch, IOC Honorary President for Life, Ottavio Cinquanta, President of the International Skating Union and Sergey Bubka, Chairman of the IOC Athletes' Commission.

Also on the programme are three special press events focusing on "The 2004 European Football Championship in Portugal", "2004, a new start for Sports in Europe?" and "The Athens 2004 Olympic Games", while a panel will bring its participants to discuss the theme "New satellite applications for sports content".
