SportAccord opens in London
At the Opening Ceremony of the SportAccord Convention currently taking place in London, the host city of the 2012 Olympic Games, IOC President Jacques Rogge congratulated the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) for the excellent progress in its preparations. He also stressed the importance of protecting the integrity of sport and the need for cooperation among sports organisations, government, law enforcement agencies and the private sector when it comes to fighting illegal and irregular betting.
The SportAccord Convention is held annually, and brings together representatives from the 100 international sports federations and organisations, along with sponsors, sports lawyers, broadcasters, rights holders and other sports leaders, to discuss the key issues facing the sports world. This year's motto is “Why Sport Matters”. The IOC’s Executive Board is also convening in London during this period.
