SportAccord and IOC EB meeting kick off in St Petersburg
IOC President Jacques Rogge addressed the delegates of the 2013 SportAccord Convention during tonight’s official Opening Ceremony in St Petersburg, Russia.
The IOC Executive Board is convening alongside the event, which brings together a variety of experts in the world of sport, including leaders of International Federations, sponsors, architects, lawyers, broadcasters and rights-holders.
During his speech, the IOC President also looked ahead to the next Olympic Winter Games which will be held in Sochi in February 2014. He praised the preparations and thanked the Organising Committee for their dedication and the authorities for their steadfast support.
IOC Executive Board meeting
The IOC Executive Board starts its three-day meeting in St Petersburg tomorrow morning by exchanging views with the Olympic Summer and Winter International Federations. In the afternoon, the Board will hear presentations from the eight candidate sports (baseball/softball, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, wakeboarding, wrestling and wushu) vying to become an additional sport on the 2020 Olympic programme. The EB will then decide which of the eight sports to recommend to the 125th IOC Session for possible inclusion.
