Special flavour and passion of Italy
"Turin will be a big success. It will offer the special flavour and passion of Italy", the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) declared today at a press conference in Rome. He also praised the Italian’s sporting culture their enthusiasm for the Games. His declarations were based on reports he had received from the President of the Organising Committee of the XX Winter Games (TOROC), Valentino Castellani, and the Chairman of the Coordination Commission for the Turin Games, Jean-Claude Killy.
The IOC President stated that he was very happy about the progress of the preparations in Turin. "TOROC has made great progress in terms of construction and it has made great progress also in marketing. 214 million euros have been secured and more is coming", the President said.
Games of Italy
"These are the Games of the whole of Italy. It is good to see the support of the National Olympic Committee (CONI) for TOROC, and that the preparation of the Italian Winter team progresses well. It is not easy to substitute the generation of Tomba and Di Centa, but a good effort is being made." he said.
General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees
In Rome, the IOC President attended the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees. The main agenda item of the Assembly was the reports by all the Organising Committees on their preparation for the Olympic Games.
