SINGAPORE 2005: Session Receives Reports

The 117th Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) resumed today after the excitement and emotion of yesterday’s 2012 Host City vote. On the agenda this morning was a minute of silence, the presentation of an Olympic Order and of the Olympia Prize; presentations on the final reports of the Athens Olympic Games; reports by some IOC Commissions, by the Olympic Museum and Olympic Solidarity and the presentation of the IOC uniforms for the XX Winter Olympic Games.

Olympic Order And Olympia Prize
The President of the International Olympic Committee presented Theodoros Angelopoulos, the husband of the ATHOC President Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, with the Olympic Order in gold and the Postal Administration of Portugal received the Olympia Prize for the best stamp for the Athens 2004 Games at the opening of this morning’s Session. This was then followed by the President of the IOC’s report to the Session.

Athens 2004 Reports
The Session also heard from Mrs Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, President of the Organising Committee of the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad – Athens 2004 (ATHOC), who presented the final report of ATHOC for the Athens Games. Denis Oswald, the Chairman of the IOC’s Coordination Commission for the Athens Games, then presented the Coordination Commission’s report on the Athens Games, which contained the activities and recommendations of the Commission after its seven years of work with ATHOC, a synopsis of proposed policy changes and a post-Athens technical analysis.

Commission Reports
Several of the IOC’s Commissions then reported to the Session on their activities during the last year. The commissions that reported were Nominations, Medical, Press, Sport & Environment, Athletes and Women & Sport, who were represented by their Chairpersons Francisco J. Elizalde, Arne Ljungqvist, Richard Kevan Gosper, Pál Schmitt, Sergey Bubka, and Anita L. DeFrantz, respectively. The Session also heard reports from the Olympic Museum and Olympic Solidarity.

IOC Excludes Ivan Slavkov
During the afternoon Session, the Session decided to exclude Mr Ivan Slavkov from the IOC. Mr Slavkov was voted out by 84 votes to 12. This meant that the motion to exclude Mr Slavkov received the two-thirds majority that was necessary to exclude him from the movement.

More Commissions Report

This afternoon also saw the IOC Commissions of Finance, Marketing, TV Rights & New Media and Radio & Television report to the Session. These commissions were represented by their Chairmen, Richard L. Carrión, Gerhard Heiberg and IOC President, Jacques Rogge, who chairs the last two commissions mentioned above. The Session also received a report from the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) represented by its Secretary General Matthieu Reeb.
