Female basketball players from Brazil, Belarus, Czech Republic, Latvia and Spain have just booked their tickets for the Beijing Olympic Games at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Madrid (Spain) from 9 to 15 June. The 12 teams qualified for the women’s Olympic tournament are now known. Besides these five recently qualified sides, the following teams will be making their way to Beijing next August: Australia, China, Korea, Mali, New Zealand, Russia and USA.
Final composition of groups
The draw to determine the final composition of groups for the Olympic basketball Tournament took place just a few minutes after the Final of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Group A: Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Korea, Latvia and Russia
Group B: China, Czech Republic, Mali, New Zealand, Spain and USA
From 9 to 23 August 2008
The complete event schedule has also been determined (info available on the International Basketball Federation’s website). Rendez-vous from 9 to 23 August 2008 in the brand-new 18,000-seat Wukesong Indoor Stadium. The preliminary round will be played from 9 to 11 August, the quarter finals on 19, the semi-finals on 21 and the final on 23.
