Qingdao Sets up Sailing Sub-Committee for the Beijing Olympic Games

(QINGDAO) -- The Sailing Committee of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) was established on Wednesday in the Chinese port city of Qingdao, which will host sailing events during the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

BOCOG Executive Vice President Liu Jingmin, who was in Qingdao, East China's Shandong Province, to attend the launching ceremony, spoke highly of the preparatory work done by Qingdao so far. He expressed his hope that the new committee will make greater efforts to push for satisfying preparations for the Games with high standards, top quality and efficiency.

The sub-committee, the first sport committee to be set up by the BOCOG and the only one in a city other than Beijing, will be in charge of all preparatory work relating to the 2008 Games' sailing competition. As a sub-organization of BOCOG, the committee is under the dual leadership of both the BOCOG and the Qingdao Municipal Government. It also receives guidance from the Aquatic Center of China General Administration of Sports.

The sub-committee consists of 15 departments, including those for media and communications, sport, personnel training, engineering and environmental protection.
