President Bach sees rowers qualify for Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro at 2015 World Rowing Championships
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach attended the final day of the 2015 World Rowing Championships this weekend in Aiguebelette, France.
The President met with a number of athletes in the athletes’ zone before watching the finals of the Women's Double Sculls, Men's Double Sculls, Lightweight Men's Four, Women's Eight, Men's Single Sculls, Women's Single Sculls, and Men's Eight. He then took part in the Men’s Eight victory ceremony.
“It was a perfectly organised event with exciting competition in a beautiful landscape,” said President Bach. “All the athletes I could speak to were very happy with the organisation and the wonderful atmosphere."
FISA announced that a record 1,300 athletes from 77 countries took part in the championships, which doubled as the main qualification regatta for next summer’s Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro. A full 129 spots for Rio de Janeiro were up for grabs.
