President Bach passes on fencing know-how to young athletes in Papua New Guinea
IOC President Thomas Bach met young athletes at the the impressive Taurama Aquatic & Indoor Centre in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, on Thursday. He joined in with basketball and badminton training before taking on some of the youngsters who are learning to fence. President Bach, who won his gold medal in fencing at the Olympic Games Montreal 1976, was able in pass on some of his know-how to the young athletes.
The Taurama Aquatic & Indoor Centre and High-Performance Sport PNG are a legacy of the 2015 Pacific Games. The Centre welcomes thousands of young sportsmen and women every week.
During the visit, President Bach was joined by members of the NOC, including the President, Sir John Dawanincura, and IOC Member and NOC Secretary General Auvita Rapilla. IOC Executive Board member and ONOC President Robin Mitchell also joined the visit.
