Through 54 municipalities in Attica
The Paralympic flame will begin its journey on 9 September in Athens. It will travel through 54 municipalities in Attica, covering a distance of 410 km. It will pass through several historic and cultural sites before entering the Olympic Stadium during the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games on 17 September, to officially open the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens.

In true Paralympic spirit
“I have seen the Relay route and I can say with certainty that the Paralympic flame will light up some remarkable historic sites in Attica, as well as other places of incredible beauty, in true Paralympic spirit”, decalred Phil Craven.

In all, some 680 torchbearers will take part in the Relay, particularly Olympic and Paralympic athletes, world champions and other famous personalities, as well as IPC members, representatives of national federations for disabled sport, Paralympic Games sponsors, and other members of the Paralympic Movement.
