One year on from Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games and we are still smiling!
It seems like only yesterday the spectacular fireworks over Singapore’s Marina Bay sounded the start of a new chapter in the Olympic story - the Youth Olympic Games. But this Sunday, 14 August, marks the first anniversary of the first ever YOG!
Full of thrills, spills, turns & twists, the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games were a rollercoaster of emotions, adventures and experiences both on and off the field and for both the athletes and the spectators.
Who can forget the epic battle for the silver medal between paddlers Isabelle Li and Ha Eun Yang; the raw passion of the Haiti football team, formed only six weeks before the tournament in the wake of a devastating earthquake that struck the country earlier in the year?
And now it looks like the London 2012 Olympic Games will be getting its own sprinkling of YOG magic with a number of athletes who competed in Singapore, such as canoeist Jessica Fox, gymnast Sam Oldham, diver Qiu Bo and badminton player Carolina Marin, looking good to qualify.
So, whatever your plans are this weekend, take some time out to watch this video and relive some memories.
But before we go, a massive shout out to all the participants, volunteers and fans who made the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games possible! Without you, there would be no YOG!
