Meeting today in Kuwait City, the Olympic Solidarity Commission reviewed the results of the continental and world programmes implemented in 2006.

Key 2006 figures
- 906 athletes have benefited from preparation scholarships for Beijing 2008 (US$ 5 millions)
- 81 support grants were provided for team sports for Beijing 2008 (US$ 3 millions)
- Support grants were also provided to 80 NOCs for their preparation and participation in Turin 2006 (US$ 7 millions)

2007 objectives and budgets
The Commission approved a budget of US$ 60 millions for the year 2007, which represents just over 24% of the US$ 245 millions general budget for the 2005-2008 quadriennium. This budget will be dedicated to the completion of all operational programmes and to their evaluation.

Athletes’ support in Vancouver
The Commission agreed to study the possibility to provide support and assistance to athletes preparing the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010. So far, Olympic Solidarity has been concentrating its efforts in supporting athletes preparing the Summer Games. Today’s discussions clearly indicate the Commission’s will to widen its support.

Talking at a press conference this afternoon, IOC Executive Board member and President of the Olympic Solidarity Commission, Mario Vazquez Raña said: ‘The decentralization of our activities is bringing great results. 2006 has been a very successful year which has seen athletes from all continents benefiting from strong programmes that have led them to take part in major continental competitions. We are pleased with these results that we will continue to see evolve in 2007.
