OLYMPIC SOLIDARITY PROVIDES FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO EUROPEAN YOUTH OLYMPIC DAYS
Lausanne, 23 July 2001 - Olympic Solidarity today announced that it provided financial assistance to the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Europe for their preparation of the 6th European Youth Olympic Days (EYOD) which will take place in Murcia, Spain, from 23 to 27 July 2001.
As part of the world programmes offered to the NOCs for the 2001 – 2004 quadrennial, the Olympic Solidarity Commission decided to offer financial assistance to the NOCs for the preparation of their athletes and teams for various Continental and Regional Games.
A total of 29 NOCs were awarded a budget so that they could successfully implement their preparation programmes. This budget was chiefly oriented towards financing the final training camps for the teams before leaving for Murcia.
The total budget that Olympic Solidarity has invested in these preparation programmes amounts to just over US$ 480,000. The European Olympic Committees (EOC) have allocated US$ 400,000 to the EYOD Organising Committee and participating NOCs as part of their continental programmes.
This programme of assistance shows Olympic Solidarity’s understanding of the growing importance of Continental and Regional Games within the Olympic Movement, and the relevance of the EYOD to the European NOCs and young athletes.
