Olympic Order Awarded to Shirley Strickland-de la Hunty


Shirley Strickland-de la Hunty was awarded the Olympic Order on 19 July 2002. In the absence of the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Dr Jacques Rogge, the award was presented by Mr Phil Coles, IOC Member in Australia.






Shirley Strickland-de la Hunty from Guildford, Australia, competed in three editions of the Olympic Games (London 1948, Helsinki 1952 and Melbourne 1956), winning seven medals (including three gold) in the 100m, 80m hurdles and 4x100m. In addition to her impressive performances, Shirley Strickland-de la Hunty has shown great dedication to the Olympic Movement through her Olympic fund-raising and promotion of Olympism throughout Australia. She has also coached athletics for almost 50 years.
