Olympic Games 2012: Frank Fredericks appointed to Evaluation Commission
Namibian track-and-field athlete Frank Fredericks was today appointed to the Evaluation Commission that will visit the five Candidate Cities wishing to host the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012. Fredericks was one of four athletes elected by his peers during the Athens Games to represent them on the IOC Athletes' Commission and co-opted as IOC Member. He was chosen by the IOC President to join the Evaluation Commission, the composition of which was announced in July. The Commission is due to start its visits in Madrid, followed by London, New York, Paris and Moscow.
The exact dates for the visits are as follows:
Madrid: 3 - 6 February 2005
London:16 - 19 February 2005
New York: 21 - 24 February 2005
Paris: 9 - 12 March 2005
Moscow: 14 - 17 March 2005
The order of the visits has been determined according to logistical considerations.
The Evaluation Commission is composed of: Chairwoman Nawal El Moutawakel (MAR), Els van Breda Vriesman (NED), Paul Henderson (CAN), Patrick Jarvis (CAN), Mustapha Larfaoui (ALG), José Luis Marco (ARG), Ser Miang Ng (SIN), Sam Ramsamy (RSA), Simon Balderstone (AUS), Philippe Bovy (SUI), Bob Elphinston (AUS), and from today athlete Frank Fredericks (NAM). Gilbert Felli (SUI), IOC Executive Director for the Olympic Games, is Executive Director of the Commission.
Analysis of the reports and on-site inspections
The Commission will be responsible for analysing the candidature files that the Candidate Cities will submit to the IOC by 15 November 2004, and make inspections on-site before issuing a report one month before the election of the host city on 6 July 2005 in Singapore.
