The Olympic flag has been raised in front of the Gangwon Provincial Government Building in a ceremony to mark 1,400 days to go until the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

The event follows the return to the Republic of Korea of the Olympic and Paralympic flags from the Sochi 2014 Winter Games and was held in the region where the host and venue cities of the 2018 Games are located.

The event was attended by more than 500 people, including representatives of Korea’s sports industry, officials, athletes and other Games stakeholders. Two-time Olympic champion speed skater Sang-hwa Lee, and Seung-hwan Jung, a member of the national ice sledge hockey team, helped to hoist the Olympic and Paralympic flags, as the Olympic Anthem played in the background.

The ceremony concluded with those in attendance shouting out slogans in unison to pledge the successful delivery of the 2018 Games in PyeongChang.
