Olympic destiny for Olympia
With a name like 'Olympia Aldersey', it seems like destiny that you would one day compete on the Olympic stage. The Australian rower, who won silver in the girls' pairs at the YOG in Singapore, was born on the day of the Opening Ceremony at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, leading her parents to give her the name Olympia.
And, having tasted success at the inaugural YOG, it's little wonder that Olympia is now targeting an appearance at the Olympic Games themselves.
“It's been an amazing experience,” she said. “It definitely gives me more motivation to make it to the Olympic Games one day.
“Seeing the Olympic rings on our Australian kit made me feel really special. It feels like such a big achievement to make it to the Games. "It's a major stepping stone for me. There's nothing else like this and the next step now would be competing in the Olympic Games.”
