Olympic Day YouTube winner

The winner of the IOC’s Olympic Day YouTube competition, and the lucky recipient of a free trip to the first Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck in 2012, has been named.

Sascha Straub from Germany won the competition with a stunning video entry of a Bike Trial in Nuremberg. Bike trial is an exciting cycling discipline that involves riding your bike over a highly demanding obstacle course, ideally without touching the ground or anything else other than with your tyres.

The IOC invited people to submit videos of themselves sharing their experience of Olympic Day to YouTube. The competition was one of several organised on various social media platforms to help spread the Olympic ideals to every corner of the world on the occasion of the birthday of the modern Olympic Games on 23 June 1894.

Social media gives people all round the world the opportunity to participate even if they can’t join an official National Olympic Committee (NOC) event in their own country.

The competitions on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter together attracted more than 30,000 entries. Standards were incredibly high and made the IOC decision a very difficult one.
