Olympic Day highlights
A global event
Olympic Day celebrates sport and values by bringing together hundreds of thousands of people across the globe. Over the last two decades, the event has helped to spread the Olympic ideals to every corner of the world.
Zimbabwe and Nepal both celebrated last year with an Olympic Run.
Thousands join Olympic run in Nepal
Around 2,000 people from all walks of life assembled at the Dashareth Stadium to be part of the Olympic Day Run organised by the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC). The Chinese Ambassador gave a keynote speech and thanked the NOC for organising the event. Before the run, popular music artists enthralled the audience with their hit numbers, and the main sponsor, Golchha Organisation, handed out sports kits to the Nepali participants in the Beijing Olympics.
Zimbabwe's 21st Olympic run attracts young people
The National Olympic Committee of Zimbabwe successfully organised three events on Olympic Day in Harare and Masvingo. The guest of honour, Doctor Mahere, Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, attended the national event in Harare. Two Olympic Runs of 5 and 10 kilometres attracted more than 2,500 people, of which more than 50 per cent were children. A Zimbabwe Olympic Academy booth ensured the promotion of the Olympic values, while traditional dance and drum majorette displays and exhibitions by National Sports Associations rounded off the fun.
