Olympic Art and Sport Contest and Exhibition

Today in Athens, IOC President Jacques Rogge opened the “Art and Sport” Exhibition. This consists of works from the 2004 Olympic Art Sport Contest organised by the IOC Commission for Culture and Olympic Education.

“Sport and Olympism”

The theme of the contest was “Sport and Olympism”, and included two categories of artworks: sculptures and graphic works.

60 artists from 39 countries

An international jury, including IOC Commission Chairman Zhenliang He and Senegalese sculptor Ousmane Sow, made its choice from some 60 artists from 39 countries, representing all five continents.

Graphic works and sculptures
In the “graphic works” category, the winners came from the People’s Republic of China, Cuba and Italy; while in the “sculptures” category, they were from the USA, the People’s Republic of China and Chinese Taipei.
