Next stop, Lillehammer 2016?

After the successful first Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck in 2012, we heard from a few inspired young Austrian athletes at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), who have their sights set on Lillehammer 2016. The EYOF took place in Vorarlberg/Liechtenstein (AUT/LIE) between 24 and 31 January.

Take a look at how their preparation is going for Lillehammer 2016:

Katharina Liensberger, 17, Alpine skiing

Are you hoping to qualify for the 2016 Lillehammer Youth Olympic Games?
My main goal is evolving continuously, step by step. Lillehammer 2016 would be the next step. I will do my very best to qualify and to successfully represent Austria in Norway.

How is your preparation going for Lillehammer 2016?
At the moment, everything is on schedule. The most important thing is to stay healthy and without injuries.

What do you do when you are not training/competing?
I love music and I play the harp. And I like being outdoors, jogging, hiking and enjoying nature.

Pia Zerkhold, 16, snowboard

Are you hoping to qualify for the 2016 Lillehammer Youth Olympic Games?
The EYOF in Vorarlberg & Liechtenstein is already just above the limit [of achievement]. But Lillehammer will surely top it, being bigger and even more grandiose. Of course I would love to be part of it.

How is your preparation going for Lillehammer 2016?
I train hard and stay focussed the whole year round. In my school in Schladming I enjoy ideal training conditions and a perfect set-up.

What do you do when you are not training/competing?
I love water. Whenever I have time, I spend hours wakeboarding. This is really fun and a great alternative to snowboarding.

Andreas Kroh, 16, Snowboard

Are you hoping to qualify for the 2016 Lillehammer Youth Olympic Games?
That’s my next goal. I love to travel and to compete in foreign countries. I’ve not been to Norway so far, so I would really like to go there.

How is your preparation going for Lillehammer 2016?
I will prepare for this event by having fun and being passionate about it.

What do you do when you are not training/competing?
I go skate- and wakeboarding. Actually, my whole life turns around sport

Good luck to all the athletes aiming for Lillehammer 2016!
