New Brazilian President tells IOC President he is ‘fully committed’ to success of Olympic Games Rio 2016
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach congratulated interim Brazilian President Michel Temer and wished him all the best, with the hope that Brazil, under his leadership, would be able to emerge from its current crisis.
During a telephone conversation on Sunday, the IOC President told him: “In this respect, the Olympic Games can help very much. We have full confidence that the Brazilians with this Government will deliver excellent Olympic Games, and your commitment makes me even more confident of the success for Brazil, Brazilians and for the entire Olympic Movement. It will be a moment for Brazil to show to the world its determination to overcome the present crisis. These will be Brazil's Games."
During the call, President Bach was able to accept an invitation to go to Brasilia in June to meet President Temer and his new Government during a visit to the country.
President Temer has already been fully briefed on the Olympic Games and the country’s new Sports Minister, Leonardo Picciani, has already made it clear that “the change in Government will not affect the organisation of the Games.”
