Miki continues her Olympic dream

On 13 February, Olympic Solidarity athlete Miki Ito from Japan, aged 22, placed 12th in a field of 27 freestyle skiers in the women’s finals of the moguls event at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. In Turin four years ago, she placed 20th and, clearly, the Olympic Solidarity scholarship has enabled her to optimise the training in the run-up to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Miki learnt freestyle skiing at the age of nine. She says,  “My parents are both physical education teachers and really like skiing. They would drive from Shiga to Hakuba, so me and my two sisters could go skiing. My father really liked moguls, and this is how my older sister and I started doing little competitions just for fun.”
