Mid-November in Rome: World Sport for All Congress

For its 10th edition, the World Sport for All Congress has the theme of “Sport for All as a tool for education and development”. Organised by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and placed under IOC patronage, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), the Congress will meet in Rome from 11 to 14 November 2004.

Experts from throughout the world
At this Congress, experts from throughout the world will highlight the fact that the practice of sport is a common goal: to place everywhere sport at the service of the harmonious development of man and thus contribute to his wellbeing.

Educational movement
In his welcome message, IOC President Jacques Rogge underlines that “The Olympic Movement is, above all, an educational movement, whose activities are orientated towards young people throughout the world. Beyond the Games, the International Olympic Committee has the duty to defend the values and educational role of sport. Because sport teaches the respect of rules and of other people.”

Five main themes

Five main themes will be addressed during the Congress:

- Sport for All and lifestyle evolution
- Issues linked to the promotion of Sport for All in developing countries
- The role of Sport for All in the promotion of health and the prevention of illness
- Sport for All and the environment
- Learning establishments and the promotion of Sport for All
