Message from the President of the IOC, Jacques Rogge
“Olympic Village Journal, Torino 2006” Farewell
As the XX Olympic Winter Games come to an end, I should like to congratulate you for having brought this wonderful festival of sport to life.
It took two years of bidding and seven years of preparation for Torino to be able to prepare the stage on which you performed during the last sixteen days of competitions. Thank you for doing justice to that work with your own efforts. It has been a privilege to spend time among you.
For two weeks, you have given us some magical moments, full of emotion and passion. Through your performances and conduct, you have shown the whole world what the Olympic Games are about: a time of universality and sporting excellence, where everyone respects each other and defends honest sporting practices. With the election of new members of the athletes’ commission, we look forward to having fresh input from participants in the Games as we move forward with our work.
Thanks also to the Organising Committee of these Games (TOROC), as well as all the volunteers for their helpfulness and dedication. They have contributed greatly to making our stay at the Olympic Village and in Turin an unforgettable experience.
Together, we have been able to share the same Olympic ideals, the same values conveyed by the Games: tolerance, peace, solidarity and friendship. I hope you will continue to take these values into your communities.
I wish you all a safe journey home and hope to see many of you in four years in Vancouver, for the XXI Olympic Winter Games!
