Meeting with President Roh

The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Dr Jacques Rogge, met the President of the Republic of Korea, Moo-Hyun Roh. Before this meeting, at a press conference in Daegu where the XXII Summer Universiade is currently taking place, the IOC President declared that he would be in favour of a unified Korean team for the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad in Athens in 2004.

Joint appearance at the Opening Ceremony
The President said that many points would nevertheless have to be dealt with beforehand, such as the number of athletes sent by each of the two National Olympic Committees (NOCs). Therefore it would be difficult to make it come about in such a short time. At the Games of the XXVII Olympiad in Sydney in 2000, the delegations of these two countries entered the stadium together at the Opening Ceremony. "I would like this to happen again", the President underlined.

High level at the University Games
The IOC President had the opportunity to visit the sports venues for the University Games where he noted the excellent level of the competitions. The XXII Summer Universiade will end on Sunday 31 August 2003 with the closing ceremony.

Doctor honoris causa
During his stay in Korea, the IOC President also received the title of doctor honoris causa from the University of Yeungnam.
